Almost Happy, Short Story
- I have always been a fan on the Legion of Superpets. I have lived around dogs for most of my life, and the idea that my childhood heroes had pets too was comforting.
- Having previously done DC superpets, I decided that Hannah Barbera super animals needed their own piece.
- And his kids!
- Krypto was playing with what he thought was a toy from his toybox, but it turned out to be a lead box of Kryptonite. Superboy is giving Krypto a Brainiac bottled “cure”
- Honestly it was the pitchfork that made the idea click in my head
- Taking a nap on the Moon
- My blue period. The Avatar aliens were blue, plus Guitar and Avatar rhyme! Win win.
- Based on the poster for the movie The Graduate. Burt Ward owns a copy of this print. Turns out he was actually up for Dustin Hoffman’s role, but Fox wouldn’t let him do anything that conflicted with Batman, so he had to bow out of the race.
- In front of the House of Mystery. Merv Pumpkinhead, Eve, and Matthew the Raven look on.
- Green Arrow and the second Black Canary too!
- Torchwood!
- Laputa! Castle in the Sky
- My second tribute to Rockwell, an my first tribute to the Fawcett heroes.
- The Wizard Shazam, holding back the Seven Deadly Sins, giving Captain Marvel his powers with a bolt of lightning.
- The other members of the Marvel Family
- The batsignal shines in the night over Gotham City, Joker is gassing the city from a balloon. Batman looks on, perched from a building. I decided Acrylic paint was the way to go for this piece.
- Originally I had planned on having Obi-wan in Leia’s position, to play upon the “Paul is Dead” phenomenon. But it didn’t look right without Leia in there. Even though Leia isn’t barefoot like Paul, Chewbacca is…..
- The events of Saga of the Swamp Thing issues 25, 26 and 27 (with Jason Blood, Etrigan, and Kamara the Monkey King. )
- Like my Hall of Justice piece, I used a specific Monet painting as a palette.
- Mxyzptlk has appeared and Superman is attempting to trick him into saying his name backwards.
- The Superfriend sidekicks. And for the second time in my paintings, Swamp Thing is the tree of knowledge.
- Done in the Style of Rockwell.
- How the message got through row three is a mystery to me. And look, a literal punch line!
- Also an umbrella for Oswald.
- Subject matter my own, but I did borrow my palette from a specific Monet painting.
- And Atom on his sholder
- Christmas card for a frequent customer. Based on a Norman Rockwell Christmas card.
- The bizarro version of “Earth” My Las Meninas parody, which is s version of Picasso’s Parody of Velasquez’s work.
- Rocket Raccoon and Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy
- Matches Malone (Batman’s undercover persona) Stands behind Joker. Something interesting is about to happen.
- Man I miss Firefly.
- I really enjoyed painting the details on the radio.
- Somehow it seemed fitting to put the Doctor in the midst of the French Revolution.
- And her kids the Tornado Twins!
- Plus Oreos, and his alien sidekick!
- When the costume designer was working on Tom Baker’s classic look, they used these posters by Toulouse Lautrec.
- Recreating the cover to Metal Men #1
- A second version was later done as a private commission without Henson.
- BMO falls from Finn’s Backpack while he swings with Princess Bubblegum. Lumpy Space Princess floats behind.
- Notice the crack in the wall?
- Experimented with a ground that allows for watercolor to be used on canvas on this piece.
- The 12th Doctor! The 10th Doctor? Rose?!
- Arrow through the head. Classic.
- Plastic Man has always been one of my favorite Golden Age heroes. He fits very well in Surrealism
- The client’s dog appears in this piece, the little chin below Krypto. Superboy wears a Smallville Firehelmet, and Krypto’s cape is still on fire.
- Tree Spirits!
- One of my weirder commissions. The Wonder Twins as Adam and Eve, Gleek as the snake, and Swamp Thing as the tree of Knowledge.
- The three other versions of Clara are in the photographs.
- With the great feedback I had received about my Last Mupper, I decided to make a second attempt at Art Parody. In my head I related Seuat’s pointillism to pixels in old nintendo games.
- The Kryptonian writing reads “Krypto. Dog For Sale” Superbaby holds a kryptonian powersourse from the movie Supergirl
- Painted with watercolors on canvas.
- I just added the reflection.
- A commission. Psycho Pirate (master of emotions) screams. Black Adam and Powergirl approach from behind
- All of the Doctors from the Star Trek TV shows! And Wesley Crusher, and most of Data. My First full digital painting.
- Sitting on the Companion Cube, eating cake, Vote Freeman and I Heart JoCo buttons.
- Recreating the bus stop scene
- Dr. Buddy Baker, vet for the superpets. A little boy dresses up to be brave as he brings his dog in for treatment. Comet, Streaky, Ace, Supergirl, Krypto, Beppo, Wasp Woman, Mary Marvel, and Hoppy appear.
- Wonder Woman was supposedly made out of clay, but what if she was birthed like Venus? Various gods swoop in with her accoutrements .
- A Re-reinterpretation of a comic panel
- I hid Swamp Thing in the Background on this piece.
- Woozy Winks taking a break from mowing the lawn with “help” from his buddy Plastic Man. Streaky, and Mister Mind make Cameos.
- In the Style of Picasso, but not referencing a specific piece. This was an early commission, the client and I agreed that Ben Grimm was sort of cubist…..
- From the movie Spirited Away
Picasso is rolling in his grave.
