Jesse Rubenfeld
got his BFA at Eastern Michigan University where he concentrated
in drawing. From a young age, Jesse was encouraged to pursue his
art. His father Richard is an Art Historian and an avid collector
of comic books and comic art. Richard did everything in his power
to make sure Jesse got all the teaching he needed to have a chance
at his dream of becoming a comic book artist. Last year Jesse studied
under Scott McCloud who came to Eastern as a visiting professor.
Jesse spent many weeks asking Scott questions and having Scott
look over and critique his storytelling skills and art style.
Jesse also had the chance to talk to and assist Dave Coverly, the
writer and artist on the syndicated newspaper strip Speedbump.
Jesse has worked on a few previous projects including a weekly webcomic
Cross Street Blues, 3 Cross Street Blues comic books, and Voices;
a limited edition comic with a print run of only 300 copies for the
2005 EMU comic book art show HOLEY MOLEY: More comic art at Eastern.
Voices was a collection of short comic stories drawn and written
by local Michigan comic artists including David Petersen and Jeremy
Bastian. Voices #2 recently came out for the third
comic art show this past November, LEAPING LIZARDS!
Every Thursday you can find Jesse hiding out in Ypsilanti behind
locked doors at "Art Night" Where he, Bastian, Petersen,
and a few others draw comics til the wee hours of the morn.
