Based on another Rockwell, featuring Betty Brant J. Jonah and Spiderman! The original painting, plus 5 other pieces of mine will be on display at the Riverside Art Gallery in Ypsilanti in their show titled Comics, Cartoons, and Caricatures. Opening reception Friday March 1st from 5-7pm. Come by, I’ll be there! And I’ll have prints of this painting there too!

I apologize for the lack of updates of late, I have had a slew of commissions that has been keeping me very busy, and I have been a bit distracted by the fact that I will be a dad in August! Expect some more parody paintings very soon!

This was a fun commission to do. Had a blast painting Hoppy the Marvel Bunny and his girl Millie. Captain Marvel Jr. was fun too, but it is rare that I get to paint rabbits. This is already up on my Redbubble shop with T-shirts, cards, iphone cases and other stuff. Prints will go up on my Etsy store before Black Friday. Next up, some more Sistine Chapel ceiling!

Here is a commission I got from a client at New York Comic Con. It seemed like a fitting image to put up for the upcoming season. I am hard at work on a decently long list of commissions, and I have a few big projects coming up that I am excited to tell you about. First off, I am adding new items to my various stores (Etsy, Redbubble) for the holidays. I am in talks with a fan who will be helping me manufacture some ceramic tiles with my paintings on them; and I have had requests to make a 2012 “replica” of the Rockwell 4 Season calendar with Krypto and Superboy. So expect those products to appear soon. Secondly, after the holidays I will be teaming up with my good friend Ken Krekeler on a book for the 2013 convention season. Can’t say much about that yet, but I am very excited about it.

So over the past few weeks I had been finishing up the 5th and last magic book for Patrick Redford. Now the crunch starts to happen leading up to New York Comic Con on October 11th (and Detroit Fanfare a few weeks later) This was another image that forced it’s way out of my head. Got to start the next set of ceiling tiles soon, but I may get another painting done before I place my print order for the shows.

So the ceiling is coming along at a steady pace. Another set of these to do in September, and then only 2 sets remain! That means I should finish this up at some point in November, and should have giant posters of this behemoth by the holiday season.

This painting was both therapeutic and experimental. Kevin Smith recently said about the Aurora killings that in the wake of so much destruction, the only way to fight back is to create. I tried painting on prepared Masonite. This felt very much like my ceiling work, since the paint was quite workable even after rewetting. So here is a little scene based on Rockwell’s Post cover called Full Treatment featuring The Joker and Harley with a Goon and Matches Malone.

Here is the last Rockwell Four Seasons Calendar Krypto piece. I had fun doing this one. I set up a Livestream and had it going almost the entire time!
